The Key To Building #aSensationalLife

Posted by Duane Cummings on 07/22/2015

I’ve been traveling the globe for a long time, and have seen many of the ancient sites. But oddly enough, it was only recently that I made a connection between the building of a sensational life and all of these fantastic places. Whether it’s the Pyramids, the ruins of Machu Picchu, the Great Wall of China, Edinburgh Castle, the Coliseum in Rome, or the Acropolis in Greece, structures of importance have bases that stand the test of time.

Sure, the walls and pillars may have toppled over, or the facades have eroded, but at the bottom of these engineering marvels you can always find a solid base.

Now, I’m not a history buff, and I can’t recite when these sites were constructed or how long it took to build them, but I know that great care must have been taken in the placement of each stone or brick, especially those at the foundation. There was no rushing this initial phase of construction…they got it right or they tore it down and did it again. They also placed one stone at a time, building layer upon layer. Just like in life, if you start with a good base, and work your way up, you can end up with something truly incredible that will last throughout the ages.

Unfortunately, decades ago I had to learn this lesson the hard way.  My life cracked, crumbled, and fell completely apart, leaving no foundation to speak of. It was devastating and I wondered if I’d make it through.  Well, I did! I began to excavate, brought in the appropriate blocks, and rebuilt.  Now, my life is solid, and long after my façade falls away, my foundation will be an example for others.  The new blocks I used included gratitude, trust, communication, love, and several others that should be a part of anything you build, if you want it to stand the test of time.

After that tremendous low point, I decided to always be the general contractor of my life, ensuring that each and every brick or stone that gets laid is the perfect fit. So, now I have to ask: Who’s your General Contractor as you build your life?  Are you rushing through the process? Do you have a solid foundation that will last the test of time? Will you have to go back and tear it all down at some point? I hope you are creating a monument that future generations will be proud to view. Let me know your thoughts and I wish you all #aSensationalLife!

Bingo! Early in my life I always looked ahead to what needs to be accomplished, built, constructed, and achieved without focusing on my own foundation. I too have hit rock bottom recently, and realized what needed to be rebuilt. Im my own contractor! Focused on the truly important pieces of my life. Great read, and looking forward to more.
